How this race works

In 2026, two seats are open. This is a nonpartisan race. You may vote for two.

The Upper Saddle River Board of Education has seven members serving staggered three-year terms. It's an at-large, nonpartisan race with no party columns and no primary. Every voter may select up to two candidates, and the two highest vote-getters win.

Make sure you vote for all races on your ballot. For membership on the Local Board of Education (Upper Saddle River), please vote for Joy McElyea and Hani Batla.

There are two school board races in USR

One is for the Upper Saddle River School District, the Pre-K-8 district we're running in, and one is for Northern Highlands Regional, the high school. Both are headed "Member of the Board of Education," differentiated by the district type printed to the side of the candidates.

For Membership to the Local Board of Education, you'll find McElyea and Batla in Column A.

Four ways to vote

Register by Tuesday, October 13

New Jersey closes registration 21 days before an election. If you've moved within town, changed your name, or turned 18 since the last election, check now rather than in November. Check your status at the New Jersey Voter Information Portal, nj.gov/state/elections.
Vote by mail, starting in early October

Any registered New Jersey voter can request a mail ballot without giving a reason. Ballots go out in early October. Mail applications must reach the County Clerk seven days before the election, Tuesday, October 27, and you can apply in person at the County Clerk's office until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2. Return it by mail or drop it in a Bergen County ballot box.
Vote early in person, October 24 to November 1

Nine days of in-person early voting on machines at designated Bergen County sites. Monday to Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. No appointment, and you can use any early voting site in the county.
Vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3

Polls are open 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at your assigned polling place.
